Polaroid stack
A dog waiting at a crosswalk
Throw the top print and it leaves in the direction you threw it, then tucks in at the back while the rest shift up one place. Clicking sends it to the back too.
On release the stack projects where the print would land if it kept moving for a fifth of a second. A quick flick projects far, so it goes even if it barely moved, and it leaves at the speed you threw it. A slow drag adds almost nothing, so it is judged by where you let go: past about a third of the print it goes, short of that it springs home, carrying your release speed into the spring.
Every print derives its look from its place in the stack: rotation, offset, scale and stacking order. The only state is the order of the prints, so there are no per-card flags to keep in sync. While you drag, the print leans with your horizontal speed, capped so it never spins.
Keyboard and access
- Keyboard
- The stack is one button. Enter or Space sends the top print to the back, and the left and right arrows throw it to that side. Focus stays on the stack while the ring moves to the next print.
- Screen readers
- The button is labelled "Next photo" and announces the shortcut keys. A polite live region reads the description of the print that is now on top.
- Reduced motion
- With reduced motion prints swap places instantly: there is no flight, no spring and no tilt while dragging.
